Secret Santa during the Holidays can MotivateJudah Hirsch
“I have always thought of Christmas as a good time; a kind, forgiving, generous, pleasant time; a time when men and women seem to open their hearts freely, and so I say, God bless Christmas!,” Charles Dickens once said. Kanken Big It’s the most wonderful time of the year and since it’s the perfect time to exchange gifts, why not arrange an age-old Secret Santa or Kris Kringle party for the office? Depending on the size of the office or departments, you can either have a gift giving activity on a single, special date like during the office Christmas party or, if the office or number of participants is small enough, you can have a Secret Santa gift giving over a few days. Fjallraven Kanken Big Either way, the steps on how to go about it are the same. The first step would be to draw the names. Kånken Rucksack There are two ways to proceed with this. If the company is small and everyone knows each other, then you can just write down the names of all the employees on a piece of paper. If the office is big and people don’t know each other that much, then you can have everyone to write down their names and put some descriptions about themselves. One can therefore write down, “David Lindo—bookworm, likes to travel, and loves gadgets.” That way, the person who will pick David’s name will have a general idea on what David will appreciate as a gift. When you already have a list of names, print the names out and cut out the names into strips that you can fold or roll. The names can be put in a box or a bowl where everyone can pick one name each for the bits of paper. Second step would be to set the price limit for the gift or gifts. If the gift giving activity will be for a few days, you can lower the price for the gift per day. Make the price of the gift or gifts affordable for everyone. To avoid controversies after the party, it is suggested that you set a specific range of price for the gift. Fjallraven Kanken Big For example, you can set that the gift must only be from Php 100 – Php 150 only. That way, people will not get uncomfortable if they receive a 100-peso gift while others are receiving 500-peso gifts or people will not gossip about the employee who gave a 1,000-peso gift to the boss during Kris Kringle. The third step is to set the date or schedules of the gift-giving activity. If the activity will be for a couple of days, you can instruct the employees to put aliases instead of their real names on the gift. For example, one can put, “ To: AmyDela Cruz, From: SecretGymBuff.” You can also set the “reveal date” during the office Christmas party to spice up the party. Fjallraven Kanken Online Fourth, during the exchange day, make the gift giving more memorable by making each person who will be giving the gift to first describe the recipient of the gift. Remind the participants that only positive or funny things can be said of the recipient, though! It’s a Christmas celebration so we cannot afford people ruining the spirit of Christmas. Also bear in mind that the most important thing is to never let it slip who you are giving a gift to before the actual exchange! It is all about the element of surprise! Lastly, if you feel like being playful or more adventurous about your Secret Santa/ Kris Kringle party, here are some suggestions! You can play the Kris Kringle trivia game. All the gifts will be displayed and you can make trivia questions about the office or people in the office, or whatever topics that you’d like and the “prizes” would be the gifts displayed. Also, you can have a “Gift Auction” where each employee will be given specific points, say 100 points each. Then each gift will be displayed and people can use their “points” to bid for the gifts! Or, you can choose a price range AND a theme for the gifts.
